India is poised to be among the leading global economic powers with the ambitious vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’. This transformation requires leveraging the unparcelled opportunities, while at the same time surmounting several social and economic challenges. Management institutions have a significant role in making India realize her economic potential. We need to groom the future leaders who not only possess excellent management acumen, but imbibe the virtues of responsive and responsible leadership who are mindful of their societal context. We need to build their capabilities to be enterprising, resilient, and agile and at the same time enable them to be conscientious about the impact of their business decisions on the social and economic lives of ordinary citizens and of the natural environment. Inclusivity, sustainability, integrity and empathy are not merely academic buzzwords, but have proven to be integral to thriving business organizations. There is a need to emphasize that enterprise profit is inseparable from inclusive growth. Success is not ‘how much you gain but how much you give.
For over seven decades, the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi, has contributed in nurturing business leaders and in turn nation building. Despite challenges, FMS remains committed to its core value of excellence while ensuring inclusive and equitable access to quality management education. FMS continues to be among the best management institutions in the country thanks to our dedicated faculty and staff, brilliant students, and our accomplished alumni. FMS has had the unique opportunity in nurturing leaders capable of finding solutions in all sectors, not just corporate enterprises. As we chart the path forward, it is important to re-emphasize our values that are central to our institution.
The FMS Forum, a not-for-profit organization set up by a group of distinguished FMS alumni in 2015, is an embodiment of the spirit of ‘giving back’ This global network of our esteemed alumni, continue to inspire with their accomplishments and excellence that defines FMS. Over the years, initiatives of the FMS Forum such as the Founder’s Day event, leadership simulator has provided impetus in shaping the thoughts and inspiring future business leaders i.e. students of FMS. Strengthening this engagement will be crucial to the ‘spirit of giving back’. Engagement could range from mentoring of students, scholarships for socially-economically deprived students, case development opportunities for faculty members, co-hosting corporate knowledge events, and training and consultancy avenues to FMS.
FMS truly appreciates continued dedication of FMS Forum towards the institution. Together we can build on the legacy of excellence that is transformative in nature. I look forward to the FMS Forum playing a critical role in enhancing Brand FMS. I wish the members of the FMS Forum the very best in all their endeavors.
